Portrait Painting in Oil, Old Masters Study, Peter Paul Rubens "Portrait of Elena Forman", 1630

This workshop will be held in the "Museum Kunstpalast” in Düsseldorf, Germany. It is one of the best known Art Museums in Germany and is found in the building of the former Düsseldorf School of Painting. There, world known artists such as Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, Karl Friedrich Lessing, Adolf Schrödter , Hans Fredrik Gude, Andreas Achenbach and Oswald Achenbach all studied the secrets of creating real visual art.
Düsseldorf is located 30 minutes from Cologne and is one of Germany's most beautiful cities, best known for its fashion industry and art scene. It is divided by the Rhein River, with the Altstadt (Old Town) on the east side and the modern commercial areas on the west side. The Rhein promenade offers one of the best ways of enjoying the city's welcoming atmosphere with it’s many restaurants, cafes and Mediterranean style bars.
As an important cultural centre, Düsseldorf has a lot of attractions such as art and history museums, the Oper am Rhein, the Ballet Theatre, the Japanese Garden, and much more.
The portrait painting workshop will be taught by Lana Kanyo, who is an internationally recognized artist, art instructor and is a member of the prestigious Art Renewal Centre.
During the workshop students will enjoy the opportunity to study and to be inspired by the Rubens' original artworks in the Museum's "Rubens Room"! The balance of the day students will work in the museum studio and reproduce one of Rubens' best known portraits; the “Portrait of Elena Forman".
The workshop will begin with an explanation of Rubens' technique and with a demonstration of mixing colors, organizing the palette, preparing mediums, and producing the mix of new colors. The class is designed to help students become confident when mixing colors only using Rubens' limited palette. You will learn that his pallet has a phenomenally broad range of color effects, and you will focus on both color harmony and the unity of light.
Your instructor will paint alongside you to provide a visual guide when learning the essential qualities of classical painting; accuracy, rhythm, light effect and the illusion of form and space.
The instruction will provide individual guidance and on that basis all levels of students are welcome.
