My name is Lana Kanyo. I am a visual artist and art instructor, and I will be your guide on this journey in the beautiful world of creating real visual art.
After living in different countries and learning the techniques of the old masters, I developed a simple and easy to understand “learning by doing” strategy of teaching visual art. For many years I shared my knowledge and experience in in-person instruction in Europe and North America; however, recent events prove the world is changing, and online education will increasingly be a more convenient form of learning.
We have extended our programs, and in addition to our art classes and workshops, we developed a three year video program. The program is affordable, flexible, and suitable for every level or age. Students with previous knowledge or more available time are free to complete the program at a faster pace.
Visual art is the oldest and only form of universal communication. If we paint a sunny landscape, everyone on every continent will understand the message!
Without real visual art, we would know very little about how humans lived 40,000 years, or even 1,000 years ago. Writings cannot survive very long, and in fact the first writings used visual art symbols. Without real visual art we wouldn’t have writings, books or schools. Without knowledge transfer, humans might still live in the caves where visual art was first created!
For thousands of years, regardless of period or style, visual art had the goal to communicate a message without any need of verbal explanation. About one hundred years ago, most likely due to the dramatic social and political changes in the European society, some artists began to experiment and created a hybrid between visual art and storytelling, termed abstract art.
We are dedicated to keeping the traditional visual art alive by using modern and effective strategies, in order to teach the skills necessary to create real visual art. Our students are free however, to use the learned skills like Picasso did, and embrace whatever style they feel most comfortable with.
Every month, students will receive three lessons with instructions on how to paint different elements and will finish one painting. Before moving to the next month, students should watch the videos and practice until they are happy with the result, and at end, submit one image with their finished work for feedback and advice.
In the first year, students will learn how to paint 12 different landscapes with various elements, such as trees, mountains, flowers, clouds, rivers, lakes, seas and buildings, all in an impressionistic style. The focus will be on developing confidence and joy in working with brushes and colors, and to have 12 artworks ready to hang (see projects bellow).
The following years we will learn to paint still lives with fine details, portraits, figurative paintings, special effects, and will explore the techniques and styles used by the Old Masters. At the end of the program students should be able to paint any topic in any style they desire.
The courses have an easy, practical step-by-step approach that can help anyone to learn the necessary skills to become a real artist and create beautiful artworks!
