Artist Rachel Blanchette
Rachel Blanchette holds a Bachelor of Education and diplomas in both design and business administration. While studying at Ryerson University she was selected from among the second year design students and received the Ontario Crafts council Award in October 1988. This award reflected her interest in the techniques used to dye and paint designs onto silk fabrics. She enjoys all aspects of design and is in a unique position at work in that she aids clients with their choices of color and texture when they are choosing stone flooring products for their homes and businesses. She enjoys being in a position to use her training to procure products in order to meet the needs of current and upcoming trends. Rachel has been taking and teaching classes all of her life. She loves to attend classes where you take with you a tangible result. Her first foray into fine art resulted in a need to find out how to do representational art. Since the spring of 2017 her heretofore hidden talents have been surfacing due to the guidance and experience of her fine art instructor Lana Kanyo. Her experience has been enjoyable and rewarding and she was able to exhibit with her peers in their "Artist to Know" Art Show 2017 hosted by Maters Art Academy. Two of her daisies were selected as exhibition finalists in a worldwide online juried art contest in December 2018. In January 2019 one of her landscapes was also chosen as a finalist. Rachel has been pleasantly surprised that these paintings have been developed and hopes that anyone who sees the work can appreciate them as well. In September 2019 her daisies were hung in the Lois Hole Callingwood library. Rachel is a voting member of the Edmonton Arts council and she recommends that everyone should pursue their dreams. Tell someone your goals and they will help you achieve them!
